Hangi weekend 2026

Sorry I’m hopelessly late with this information. It’s hard to remember something that’s a year away when the details are not ready when I’m ready. Anyway, no excuses, I’ll do better. Here are the details copied from the NZ Vikings facebook group for future visitors.

🇳🇿 HANGI WEEKEND – Questions & Answers

Got questions? You’re probably not the first! 😄

Here’s a collection of the questions we get asked most often. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just ask in the event chat and we’ll update this post.

🥝 Who can attend?

This weekend is primarily for New Zealanders and their families, as well as people with close Kiwi family connections (partner, children, etc.).
If you’re unsure whether the event is for you, just get in touch with the organisers.

📝 Can I still sign up?

Absolutely!
There’s still room for more.
You can stay for the whole weekend or just join us on Saturday for the Hangi at half price.

📍 Where is it?

Klintehytten
Strandbakken 145
Klinteby
4700 Næstved

🎥 Take a look around:

🕓 When can I arrive?

Arrival is from 4:00 pm Friday. Turn up whenever suits you after that.

💰 What’s included?

  • 2 nights’ accommodation (bunk room or own tent)
  • Traditional Hangi dinner
  • Saturday lunch
  • Breakfast on Saturday & Sunday
  • Tea, coffee, juice and cordial throughout the weekend

🔥 When will the Hangi be?

Saturday is all about preparing the Hangi.
We’ll get the fire roaring, heat the steel, prepare the pit and get all the food ready.
Everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to join in.
The Hangi is usually served around 6:00 pm on Saturday.

🤝 Do I need to help out?

Definitely! 😄
This isn’t a festival where a few people do all the work.
The Kiwi way is that everyone mucks in. Whether it’s peeling veggies, digging the pit, washing up, setting tables, tidying up or helping wherever needed, everyone lends a hand during the weekend.
Many hands really do make light work.

🛏 Will I have a bed?

We still have plenty of space available in the bunk rooms.

Prefer camping? No problem—there’s plenty of space for tents too.

🎒 What should I bring?

If you’re staying in a bunk room:

  • Pillow
  • Sleeping bag or duvet
  • Bed sheet

Everyone should bring:

  • Towel
  • Toiletries
  • Torch/flashlight (especially useful if you’re camping or wandering around after dark)
  • Food for your Friday night BBQ (and bread, rolls or anything else you’d like with it). We’ll provide the salads.
  • Your own drinks.
  • If you’d like, bring some homemade baking (cake, slices, biscuits or similar) to share for Saturday afternoon coffee & tea while the Hangi is cooking.
  • Also any Marmite, Vegemite or other kiwi favourite donations are more than welcome 🙏
  • Your own BBQ utensils (tongs, spatula, etc.) if you have them.
  • A couple of good, sharp vegetable knives if you’re happy to help with the Hangi preparation.

🥗 What about vegetarians?

We’ll have a vegetarian option available.
Please let us know when you register so we can buy the right amount of food.

🍺 What about drinks?
Please bring your own drinks.
We’ll provide tea, coffee, juice and cordial throughout the weekend.
Please note that fridge space is primarily reserved for the Hangi food, so pack accordingly.

🚿 Are there showers?

Yes.
There are four shower rooms (2 × 2) with plenty of hot water.
With more than 100 people attending, there will probably be a queue if everyone decides to shower at the same time.
The sea is only a short walk away if you’re up for a refreshing Kiwi-style wash! 🌊😉

📶 Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lodge.

🏉 Will there be rugby?

If someone wants to watch a game, feel free to set it up on the TV in the common room.

🐶 Can I bring my dog?

If you can’t arrange dog sitting, you’re welcome to bring a well-behaved dog.
Please keep it under control at all times and remember to clean up after it.

🚗 Is there parking?

There is limited parking at the lodge itself.
If the car park fills up, please park along the gravel road leading up to Klintehytten.

🌊 What is there to do?

There’s plenty to keep everyone busy!

  • Swim in the sea
  • Walk down the cliff steps to the beach
  • Jump off the bathing jetty
  • Huge football-sized grass area for games
  • Playground with swings and sandpit
  • Large bonfire area
  • Shelters with their own firepit
  • Additional firepit in front of the lodge
  • Large covered terrace for relaxing and socialising

Feel free to bring:

🏉 Rugby ball

⚽ Football

🥏 Frisbee

🏏 Cricket gear

🎲 Any outdoor games you’d like to share.

🧹 Do we need to clean before leaving?

Yes—but don’t worry, we’re not expected to do a full end-of-stay clean. Before heading home on Sunday we’ll all help with a few simple jobs such as:

  • Sweeping floors
  • Emptying rubbish bins
  • Tidying the shared outdoor areas

If everyone chips in for a short while, it’ll be done in no time.

❤️ One last thing…

The Hangi Weekend isn’t just about the food.

It’s about spending time together, making new friends, catching up with old ones and sharing a little slice of New Zealand in Denmark.

Bring your Kiwi spirit, your sense of humour and be ready to muck in.

See you at Klintehytten! 🇳🇿🥝🔥
